SANTA FE, New Mexico — February 3, 2011 —This past November the State of New Mexico piloted an innovative electronic Pollbook in Taos, Valencia and Lea Counties. The product is the AskED® E-Pollbook from Robis Elections which uses a patent-pending decision support system to guide Election Day workers in how to process voters—securely, accurately, and quickly.
The AskED line of products has been used in jurisdictions across the U.S. to provide “just-in-time” training and to guide election workers to the correct course of action for each voter.
The patent-pending decision support system in the AskED product line ensures that each voter is serviced accurately based on their particular registration status and circumstances. By applying this technology to pollbooks, Robis has allowed jurisdictions to dramatically improve service to voters.
Electronic pollbooks provide a way to reliably capture, process and verify voter information right at the poll sites. These steps have historically been part of a manual process that drains staff time and often take weeks to complete. By implementing an electronic poll book, counties no longer need to manually process voter history. And by replacing paper pollbooks, jurisdictions can save thousands of dollars every election while helping the environment.
Directing Voters
A common problem in voting is that voters will attempt to vote at the wrong location where their particular ballotstyle is not available. The AskED E-Pollbook assists with this problem as well. In the New Mexico pilot election, over 2,500 voters were directed to the correct poll site using the AskED® E-Pollbook’s decision support and built-in maps. Valencia County noted that fewer provisional ballots were needed in this election as a result and voters were able to vote their proper ballot.
Help with Equipment
Not only does the AskED® E-Pollbook allow jurisdictions to better service voters, but it also supports the use of the voting equipment in the polling place. Each AskED E-Pollbook includes an interactive help system and even custom equipment videos showing poll workers exactly how to set-up their specific election equipment and how to deal with any problems that might arise during the day—again avoiding delays for voters.
Cost Savings
Jurisdictions that use the AskED Pollbook on an on-going basis have reported dramatic cost savings including lower printing costs, lower staff costs and lower support costs—all while improving the experience for voters.
Great Experience for New Mexico
“Robis made the implementation easy for all of us,” said Pat Chappelle, County Clerk of Lea County. “Their training was very professional. The AskED E-Pollbook was easy to use for all of our poll workers. They loved it.”
